By: TS

Paul Otellini, CEO at Intel, recently said in an interview with 'Der Spiegel' that Intel was on its way to new growth markets.

Otellini named as the new growth markets: the new class of low cost computers, mobile internet devices and basic computer electronics. Intels plans sales of 40 billion USD in those markets. Otellini also said that around a billion of people waits to buy a computer as soon as price become affordable to them. In five years from now all entertainment devices would be connected to the internet. Currently around 300 millions of personal computers are sold but 1.2 billion of mobile phones are sold. Adding growth rates to this figures out what future amounts will be. otellini estimates that around 20% of the mobile phones could function as a mobile computer. The fastest growing markets overall were Eastern Europe, South America, India and China.

Software developers and service providers should realize that there's an enormous potential and need for software products and internet services for the new devices and customers - however matching offers could look and function.

Otellini also said that the industry more and more tends to form strategic partnerships and alliances to reach synergy effects and jump quicker to the break even point of investments.
